Life should have balance, intensity, and focus – it should reflect intentional living not accidental living. The mind/body/spirit connection is what creates the synergy, flow and, ultimately, that experience of performance known as being “in the zone.” Performance without vision tends to be reactionary, mundane, and uninspired. The spirit within us enlivens our vision – the mind creates the action plan – and the body performs the activity.
I believe in mastery, personal best, and joy whether it be in competition, performance or day to day living. In other words, whether it's a workout, dance, sporting competition, public speaking or another pursuit, none of this occurs in a vacuum. Your psychological approach and personal beliefs can play a critical role in your success. The following are some examples:
-
•Do you enjoy the process of working out or just the outcome?
-
•Do you use positive self-talk to get you motivated or routinely "beat up" on yourself with self- criticism?
-
•Did you start with a vision of what you want to achieve?
-
•Have beliefs about what is or isn't "gender appropriate" influenced competitive behavior and pursuits?
-
•Do you respond better to positive or negative coaching styles?
-
•What is your pre-performance planning and routine?
-
•Do you believe in yourself?
To achieve your goals, you will find that success is "all in your head" as in not only what you do but how you think. It is also in finding and following your passion. The combination will always help you to "perform inspired" to achieve:
-
•Mastery
-
•Personal Best
-
•Zone Performance
-
•Joy in the Process
